I’m no stranger to affirmations. In fact, I’ve already written about how affirmations can literally change your life. Here’s the brief version: we have about 45,000 to 51,000 thoughts a day which roughly translates to 150 to 300 thoughts a minute. These thoughts take up prime real estate in your brain and can shape how you feel, what you think and how you interact with yourself and those around you; for better or for worse.
Speaking from experience, it’s not always easy to be a ray of light and positivity during a government enforced lockdown, however justified it may be. These past few months have brought up a myriad of emotions ranging from the most dramatic (Will this ever end?) to the most numbing and apathetic (Today is the same as yesterday.) Now, more than ever, when we have more time than we’re accustomed to to ponder life’s mysteries, we should devote our energy into shaping our thoughts. We owe it to ourselves to not make this pandemic, economic crisis and overall cluster f*ck any more unbearable than it has to be!

How and when to use affirmations:
That’s a very personal question that only you can answer. Some people dedicate time during their morning routines. You may start your day with gentle stretching, or warm lemon and ginger water, or by reading a book. Some opt to take a meditative walk or sit still and enjoy the silence of a new day. Don’t all these sound lovely? Too bad routine before, and during a pandemic are a little different, so my suggestion: do your affirmations when, and how you can.
These are unprecedented times of stress and anxiety. If you’re feeling low, please know that you’re not alone in this. While distances seem farther than ever, we are actually experiencing a moment that is connecting each and every person on this planet which is tragically beautiful.
